Mother's Day in Ukraine is celebrated on the second Sunday of May. This holiday is a reason to tell mom that she is the dearest and dearest person. This time the holiday is on Sunday, May 12.
According to the decree of the President of Ukraine dated May 10, 1999, Mother's Day is celebrated in Ukraine on the second Sunday of May.
The history of the holiday goes back to the beginning of the 20th century. Back in 1908, the young American Anna Jervis, who was originally from Philadelphia, took the initiative to honor mothers. She proposed this day in memory of her mother, who died prematurely. Anna Javis wrote letters to various state institutions for a long time, addressed famous people with the idea of devoting one day a year to the honoring of all mothers.
The girl's efforts were not in vain, and already in 1910, the state of Virginia (USA) was the first to recognize Mother's Day as an important official holiday. Then, step by step, more and more states began to introduce this holiday. Later, this good tradition was transferred to the practice of other countries. After the First World War, Mother's Day began to be celebrated in Sweden, Norway, the Czechoslovak Republic and other European countries.
In Ukraine, a mother has been considered the keeper of the hearth and a person who is native to all of us for centuries. Although Mother's Day has been officially celebrated in Ukraine for only a few decades, mothers have been honored in our country for much longer.
The "Etalon-Ukraine" team congratulates all mothers on the holiday!
